Surface Electromyography (SEMG)

"As muscles contract, microvolt level electrical signals are created within the muscle that may be measured from the surface of the body. A procedure that measures muscle activity from the skin is referred to as surface electromyography (SEMG)"

Surgical Hospital

An acute care hospital with at least 45 percent of its Medicare discharges involving a surgical procedure.

Suspects

Suspects are potential clients that have been identified by the consultant. Once identified information is gathered on them, including size of practice, location, site, specialty(s), services, ownership, financial status, and so forth This information is often stored in the consultant's contacts database.


Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR)

“The SGR is the current mechanism for updating payment rates for physicians’ services and has two key components: an expenditures
target level (measured both annually and cumulatively), and a method for adjusting payment rates over time in an attempt to bring expenditures in line with the target level.”

System-Owned MSOs

MSOs created, funded, and essentially governed by hospitals.

Tactical Plans

A company's formal description of how, when, and where the strategic initiatives will be met.


Tail/Nose Coverage

Professional liability insurance coverage related to future services rendered after employment has terminated, or covering prior acts, respectively.

Tangible Assets

Physical assets, including cash, accounts receivable, inventory, property, plant and equipment, etc.

Tangible Personal Property

Tangible things capable of ownership not classed as realty, they being furniture, fixtures, equipment, machinery, inventories, vessels, precious metals, vehicles, gems, evidences of debt and money.

Targets

Prospects are surveyed on a case-by-case basis and those whose information meets the limiting qualifications set by the consultant have preliminary proposals prepared and can be considered targets.

Tasks, Duties, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities

The specific tasks and duties to be performed by person and the area of the organization or processes for which that person is responsible and accountable to management.

Tax Liability

Liability that establishes whether practice finances are filed on personal or corporate tax returns.

Tax-Exempt Not-for-Profit Organization

An exempt organization is organized or operated for the benefit of private interests. The IRS has stated that “[n]o part of the net earnings of a section 501(c)(3) organization may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual[, whereby] a private shareholder or individual is a person having a personal and private interest in the activities of the organization.”

Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)

“A federal taxpayer identification number or employer identification number as defined by the IRS in 26 CFR 301.6109–1.”

Teaching Facility

Facilities that employ physicians and practitioners with teaching appointments.
