In Memoriam - Robert James "Bob" Cimasi

Colleagues:

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Robert James Cimasi, MHA, ASA, FRICS, MCBA, CVA, CM&AA, a great friend, mentor, and professional colleague to us all. Bob was a nationally known lecturer on healthcare industry topics and a renowned author of nine acclaimed books; numerous chapters in legal treatises and anthologies; published articles in peer reviewed professional journals and industry trade publications; and, was often quoted by the healthcare industry press. He was a pioneer of the business and healthcare valuation profession, and devoted a significant amount of his professional life to selflessly giving back to his colleagues, through mentorships; fulfilling requests for data; professional education; and, volunteer efforts on a wide array of association and society board and committee positions. Although Bob had already transitioned from his role as President of Health Capital Consultants, he continued his passion of reading, writing, healthcare consulting, and sharing his experience with others until he passed, and his knowledge, values, and legacy will live on at Health Capital Consultants.

For those few who never got to meet Bob, he was a beloved husband to Laura Baumstark; son of the late Louis and Mary Cimasi; brother of Teresa (Matt) Ferraro; John (Deborah) Cimasi; Charles (Kathleen) Cimasi; Anita (Philip) Smith; and Margaret (James) Allen; brother-in-law of David (Linda) Baumstark; Donald (Barbara) Baumstark; and, “Uncle Bob” to dozens of nieces and nephews.

Bob founded Health Capital Consultants, a nationally recognized healthcare financial and economic consulting firm headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1993. During his 35-plus years in the valuation profession, he earned distinction as an Accredited Senior Appraiser; Certified Valuation Analyst; Certified Healthcare Business Consultant; Master Certified Business Appraiser; and, Mergers and Acquisitions Certified Professional. In 2006, Bob was honored with the prestigious “Shannon Pratt Award in Business Valuation” conferred by the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA). In 2007, he was named a member of the College of Fellows of the IBA. In 2011, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). In 2016, Bob was named a "Pioneer of the Profession" as part of the recognition of the NACVA "Industry Titans" awards, which distinguishes those whom have had the greatest impact on the profession.

A “Celebration of Life” is tentatively planned to be held in the New Year. If so desired, contributions may made to a charity of your choice.

While we would wish Bob to “rest in peace,” Bob has never been one to rest for any length of time.  He will be acutely missed, but his tremendous impact on this profession, and us, will certainly not be forgotten and will be forever appreciated.
