Iowa�s Covenant Medical Center has entered into a $4.5 million settlement with the DOJ in response to alleged violations of the Stark Law and the False Claims Act. The allegations stemmed from compensation arrangements in which Covenant physicians received three times greater compensation than other referring physicians, failing to meet standards of fair market value and commercial reasonableness. OIG Releases Report on �Incident-to� Services
The OIG report on �incident-to� services revealed that unlicensed and often unqualified non-physicians lawfully bill Medicare for incidental services under current Medicare rules. The OIG made recommendations to CMS in order to ensure the protection of Medicare beneficiaries from unqualified personnel providing care. (Read more...)
