PDF Icon Small CMS Proposes 0% Change in 2011 ASC Payment Rates
Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) can expect to see a zero percent increase in Medicare reimbursements in 2011, according to the proposed rule released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 2, 2010 related to the ASC and hospital outpatient prospective payment system The proposed market basket update for hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) for 2011 is set at 2.15%. PDF Icon Small CMS and ONC Issue Final Rules about �Meaningful Use�
Under the HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), eligible healthcare professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals may qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments upon the implementation and demonstration of �meaningful use� of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. Through HITECH, the federal government will make available incentive payments totaling up to $27 billion over 10 years. The legislation links the incentive payments to the achievement of advances in health care clinical and quality processes and outcomes. On July 13, 2010 CMS and ONC issued the Final Rules regarding what constitutes meaningful use for the purposes of qualifying for the incentive payments. (Read more...)
